stone selection for foyer

I am redoing an entry foyer of a newly purchased house. It currently has white tile & I would like to upgrade the look. My initial idea was to install a cream Marble (http://www.lightemprador.com) (like marfil) & have a diamond inset pattern cut out at the corners using a dark green Marble (http://www.lightemprador.com) . In my shopping around a few places have told me that porcelain & Granite (http://tanbrown.org) are a better selection particularly in a heavily used area. These Stone (http://g603.net) s I am told are stronger than Marble (http://www.lightemprador.com) . I have found a beige/bianco porcelain & a verde oriental green Marble (http://www.lightemprador.com) that look beautiful in foyer. Question? How does each Stone (http://g603.net) hold up against scratches. I am asking because my son accidentaly dropped a metal piece on the porcelain leaving a mark that I cant remove.
